The Taylor River Reserve walk is Blenheim’s most-used recreational track — around 4.6 km of flat sealed path that follows the Taylor River from central town all the way out to Taylor Dam Reserve. Concrete underfoot, river on one side, parks and sports fields on the other, and a steady flow of walkers, runners, cyclists and dog walkers throughout the day. It is one of the few central walks in any New Zealand town where the surface is genuinely wheelchair- and pram-friendly the whole way.

About the Walk
The Taylor River runs through the centre of Blenheim, and the reserve walk that follows it is the spine of the town’s recreation network. Most of the route runs as twin paths — one on each bank — so walkers and cyclists can loop in either direction. The path is fully sealed concrete, flat, and stays close to the water the whole way.
The walk passes a steady sequence of Blenheim landmarks: the Riverside Park amphitheatre steps near the town centre, A&P Park and the Burleigh Bridge area, the access track to Wither Hills Farm Park at Rifle Range Place, the connection out to the Wither Hills Mountain Bike Park, and finally Taylor Dam Reserve at the far end. Most people don’t walk the whole length in one go — they pick a section, often Riverside Park to Burleigh and back.
Sports fields and parkland line much of the route — Lansdowne Park, Burleigh Park, A&P Park — making it busy on weekends when sports are on. Mature trees offer good shade in summer, which is a real advantage in Marlborough.
Sections and What to Expect
The lower section (central Blenheim — Burleigh Bridge) is the busiest, with the most foot traffic, the Riverside Park duck-feeding boardwalk, and direct access to the town centre. The middle section (Burleigh — Rifle Range Place) opens out through the sports fields. The upper section (Rifle Range Place — Taylor Dam) is the quietest, more open countryside, and the walk that most regular users do for a full out-and-back.
The track crosses the river in two spots, which can be affected during high rainfall — check at the entry points if it’s been raining heavily.
