Historical and Cultural Sites in Blenheim

Exploring Local History and More

Blenheim and the Marlborough region have a layered history — from early Māori settlement along the Wairau River to New Zealand’s first significant colonial land conflict, the Wairau Incident of 1843. The Marlborough Museum in Blenheim covers the region’s winemaking, farming and social history, while the town centre retains heritage buildings from the late 19th century. Just south of town, the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre houses one of New Zealand’s most significant collections of vintage aircraft, staged in dramatic diorama settings.
