What is a home zone?

Many schools have an enrolment scheme. If you live inside its home zone, your child has the right to a place there. Schools without a zone take any local student, space permitting. The written zone description from the Ministry is the final word, so check your street with the school.

What does EQI mean?

The Equity Index replaced deciles in 2023. It estimates how many socio-economic barriers a school’s students face, and sets extra funding. A higher number means more barriers. It is not a measure of how good a school is.

What is a state-integrated school?

A school with a special character, often religious, that is part of the state system. Families usually pay attendance dues towards the buildings, and enrolment can depend on the special character.
