Picton’s skaters have 1500 square metres to play with at the Picton Skate Park, a streetscape-themed concrete park in the north-western corner of Auckland Street Reserve. The reserve sits on the bank of Waitohi Stream, reached from Auckland Street and Wairau Road, and Marlborough District Council describes the skate area as quality space for skateboards and rollerblades.
The council has also replaced a half-pipe riders found too hard to skate with one they can progress up, and added purpose-made ramps for younger skaters. Outside the skate area, the reserve is an off-lead dog exercise area, and there are toilets by the car park off Wairau Road.

About Picton Skate Park
The park is laid out around a streetscape theme, so expect the kind of obstacles you would find in town rather than one big bowl. The council’s facility page gives the skating area as 1500 square metres, shared by skateboarders and rollerbladers.
The council has put work into it. When Skate Marlborough pitched upgrades for the Blenheim skatepark to councillors in June 2024, Councillor Gerald Hope pointed out that the council had already improved the Picton park.
A July 2025 report on the Blenheim upgrades explained what that work involved: a half-pipe that was too hard to skate was replaced with one riders can progress up, and purpose-made ramps were added for young skaters. Blenheim’s skaters even asked for ramps like Picton’s in their own park.
The rest of Auckland Street Reserve is grassy, with a mix of trees and a gravel path. A pedestrian footbridge crosses Waitohi Stream into the park, and a walking path links it with Heather Place Reserve.
Dogs and the Reserve
Marlborough District Council has designated the reserve a dog exercise area where dogs can run off the lead, as long as they stay under their owner’s control. The skate park itself is outside that area, so keep dogs off the concrete and clear of riders.
Before You Go
Helmets, knee pads and wrist guards are a good idea, particularly for younger riders trying the new ramps. The council does not list lighting for the park, so plan a daytime session, and check the council’s facility page for any notices.
