What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Evaluation Report from October 2024. ERO found most students reach or pass curriculum expectations in reading and maths, and Māori students do better than their schoolmates in both.

Leaders now gather reliable achievement information and use it to choose teacher training, classrooms are settled and well organised, and the school draws on local community resources.

ERO also raised concerns: fewer than half of students reach the expected level in writing, boys lag behind in reading and writing, and fewer than half attend school regularly, short of the Ministry’s attendance target.

ERO and the school agreed to build teachers’ skills in literacy to lift writing results, to work with students, parents and whānau on a plan to improve attendance, and to take a more planned approach to checking whether the school’s improvement priorities are working.

Enrolling

Tua Marina School runs an enrolment scheme. Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol. Out-of-zone places are offered each year depending on how much room there is, and by ballot when there are more applicants than places.

The school’s out-of-zone enrolment page explains the enrolment periods and ballot process, and application forms come from the school office.
