What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from February 2024. This kind of report sets out what ERO and the school will evaluate together, here the effect of building the college’s graduate profile into teaching, learning and pastoral care.
ERO noted that the graduate profile was shaped with students, whānau, staff, the community and iwi, and that closer links with iwi and local knowledge have informed the school’s direction.
Systems for tracking progress help staff find students who need to catch up and plan for them together, and the recently introduced vertical whānau classes are building supportive relationships between older and younger students and their teachers.
From here the school plans to keep working with iwi so teachers grow more confident using local stories and knowledge in their programmes, run targeted professional learning to engage all students, ask students and whānau what success in these skills should look like and how to measure it, and use achievement, agency and engagement data to judge the impact. ERO also noted that the school is planning to share a new site with Marlborough Girls’ College in future.
