What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Evaluation Report from January 2026. ERO found the college has built a curriculum that is connected, place-based and culturally responsive and gives students a say in their learning, and that closer ties with whānau and local iwi are widening students’ pathways.
Most students gain NCEA Level 2 and Level 3 and meet the literacy and numeracy co-requisites in Year 11 (the school does not offer NCEA Level 1), but results are not yet even for Pacific and Asian students at Level 2 or for Māori and Pacific students at Level 3.
By the end of Year 10 only a small majority are at the expected level in writing and maths, and fewer than half of students attend school regularly. ERO described collaborative leaders, respectful relationships between staff and students, effective support for students who need extra help, and a board that keeps a close eye on attendance, wellbeing and achievement.
ERO’s priorities for the college are to agree on consistent, evidence-based teaching practice across the school, build better systems for tracking and reporting the progress of students in Years 9 to 11, strengthen school spirit and belonging, and lift regular attendance.
