Riverlands School is a state, co-educational full primary school for Years 1 to 8 at 21 School Road, Blenheim. It opened in 1906 and had 185 students on its roll at 1 September 2026.
Its home zone includes all of Riverlands, and parts of Redwood Pass, Wither Hills, Blenheim CBD, Redwoodtown and Seddon; the zone map below shows the full boundary.
The school’s site describes a semi-rural school on Blenheim’s southern edge that uses Positive Behaviour for Learning, with whole-school kapa haka and waiata on Friday afternoons and a kapa haka performance group open to Years 4 to 8. Students can also join school sports teams and take part in the Kids Edible Gardens programme run with the Marlborough District Council.

MELAA: Middle Eastern, Latin American and African.
Stand-downs and suspensions
Cases per 1,000 students in 2025, adjusted for the ages of the school’s students, compared with all New Zealand schools.
Suspensions: fewer than 5 cases in 2025, so no rate is shown.
These measure how a school responds to behaviour, and schools set their own thresholds, so they are not a measure of how students behave.
What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Report from August 2025. ERO rated teaching as high quality and found that a large majority of students meet or exceed curriculum expectations in reading and maths, but only a small majority in writing, with results not yet even across groups of learners.
Attendance is well behind the government target: fewer than half of students attend regularly and chronic absence is not yet falling, although the school has a suitable plan and regular attendance is improving.
Students feel well and included and know the school values, learners with complex needs are well supported, and structured literacy is in place across the school while a structured maths programme is being introduced.
The school’s priorities are stronger school-wide assessment and better use of the results, better progress in reading, writing and maths, especially boys’ writing, more even results between groups of learners, bringing its programmes into line with national curriculum changes, and lifting regular attendance while reducing chronic absence.

Enrolling
Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol. Out-of-zone places are offered under the school’s enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places. The school asks families to confirm they are in zone, then complete its online enrolment form, and welcomes visits before a child starts.
New entrants start in groups at set points each term after a series of settling-in visits, and the school publishes its cohort start dates on its enrolment page.
